Treatment of Separation Anxiety in Dogs with Reconcile
Abstract
Separation anxiety is one of the most common behaviour problems of companion dogs.Ignoring the problem or an inadequate treatment can lead to abandonment, relinquishment to an animalshelter, or even euthanasia of affected dogs. A successful treatment is based on a management plan thatimproves the relationship between the owner and the dog, with behaviour therapy, and providesappropriate medication. Our purpose was to evaluate the efficacy of Reconcile (Fluoxetinehydrochloride) in treatment of separation anxiety. For establishing the correct diagnosis were usedanamnesis questionnaires, clinical and semiological methods and also paraclinical test. The results of thisstudy demonstrate the clinical efficacy of Reconcile combined with behavioural therapy, for the treatmentof separation anxiety in dogs.a) Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
