Contributions to Knowledge of Embryonic Development of Pike (Esox lucius) under Artificial Conditions



Experiments of embryonic development on pike were conducted at C.C.D.P. Nucet
during 25.03–02.04.2011. For artificial spawning have been used two groups of breeders, a group of
smaller breeders (group A) (w=1.5 kg/ex) and a group of bigger fish (group B) (w=5 kg/ex).
Incubation of fertilized eggs is accomplished in two concrete tanks, each having a total volume of
water of 120 m2 and a depth of 1.2 m. The two tanks are disposed in a closed hall. The hatching period
was of 8 days, during this interval of time, according to the temperature values registered (8–12.50C),
were accumulated about 93 degrees days. The hatch of eggs starts approximately at the same time in
both concrete tanks (T1 and T2). In the tank T2 (Fecundity=93%; Embryonary=85%; Hatching=70%)
all technological parameters were better then those achieved in the concrete tank T1 (Fecundity=90%;
Embryonary=60%; Hatching=40%). Since all physical-chemical parameters had the same values in
both concrete tanks, which mean that the differences between technological parameters registered in
concrete tank T1 and concrete tank T2 are because of the breeders used, respectively smaller breeders
in T1 and larger breeders in T2.
