SUSCEPTIBILITY OF STAPHYLOCOCCUS INTERMEDIUS STRAINS ISOLATED FROM DISEASED DOGS AGAINST FLOROQUINOLONES
Abstract
Staphylococcus intermedius is the predominant type of coagulase-positive staphylococci on normal canine skin (BERG et al., 1984), and is the causative agent of pyoderma and otitis externa in dogs (IHRKE et al., 1987). A primary or secondary bacterial skin infection determined by bacteria of the Staphylococcus genus is often a component of the skin diseases (PELLERIN et al., 1998). The flouoroquinolones have revolutionized treatments against bacterial pathogens resistant to traditional antibacterial agentsa) Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
